Kanak Bhawan is considered one of the most revered temples in Ayodhya and lies about 2 km from Ayodhya Junction in the Tulsi Nagar area. According to tradition, the palace was gifted to Mata Sita by Queen Kaikeyi soon after her marriage to Lord Ram and is believed to have served as their private residence.
The temple has undergone several renovations throughout history. It is believed that King Vikramaditya restored the structure, and the present temple was later rebuilt in 1891 by Queen Vrish Bhanu Kunwari of Tikamgarh. The temple complex today reflects a blend of devotion, history, and elegant Bundela-style architecture.
Inside the Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) are beautifully adorned idols of Lord Ram and Mata Sita, including three pairs of golden-crowned idols
beneath a silver roof. These richly decorated idols and the temple’s serene environment make Kanak Bhawan a deeply cherished place of worship for devotees.
Kanak Bhawan holds deep spiritual importance as a symbol of the divine bond between Lord Ram and Mata Sita. The temple is known for its vibrant devotional atmosphere and attracts pilgrims from across the country.
Throughout the year, the temple hosts several important festivals, including Ram Navami, Diwali, Dussehra, Phool Bangla (flower festival), Jhula Festival, and Sharad Purnima, when the temple comes alive with celebrations and devotional gatherings.
